Festival or city-exploring ? Jackson is your perfect companion day by day.
Walk like Jacksonians - Downtown Jackson Mississippi with your munda:rt sneakers
One hot weekend in August, the annual Jackson Rhythm and Blues festival. I start out to explore the city already one day earlier, enjoying a lazy Thursday morning and noon in Downtown Jackson. Walking the streets with my munda:rt sneakers, my walking tour takes me past Lamar Life Building, Jackson's first skyscraper, built in 1924-25. Following Capitol Street to the West, adjacent I and St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral, finished in the Gothic Revival Style in 1903. Turning right into West Street, I stroll through Smith Park, the only park left of the original, old city of Jackson. Nowadays still one of the best parks of the city and loved by Jacksonians as well as tourists. Crossing Yazoo Street and going on towards Mississippi Street, I am thankful for my munda:rt fashion sneakers with their soft Phylon split outsole and neoprene lining: these ultra light sneakers make walking big fun.
Now I am headed for High Street, walking by Mississippi State Capitol towards Mississippi Supreme Court Building. Turning East, I am slowly strolling down High Street. Slowly approaching lunch time, I decide to eat at Chimneyville Smokehouse. Still some distance to walk, I enjoy the City with Soul, being greeted by easy-going Jacksonians. Jackson is a City with Soul, definitely. At the Smokehouse I enjoy the daily specials, during the Smokehouse does not offer any fixed lunch menu. Maybe I should come again for breakfast? They are open from 10:30 am, as friendly locals assure me. Sweet cinnamon rolls are in fashion, so I decide to check in once more during the morning. For now it is time to go back to the hotel. On my way back through downtown Jackson I cover North State Street and appreciate sightseeing point like Eudora Welty Library, the Old Capitol Inn and the Standard Oil Company Building. Thanks, Munda:rt, for these cool sneakers!
Back at the hotel I take of my fashion sneakers of munda:rt, and once more I appreciate the removable foam insole. Tomorrow will be another day on the streets, enjoying the City with Soul and a lot of music. My fashion sneakers will be with me - sock construction and special lacing promising comfortable footwear for a festival weekend in Jackson.
